About
Danelle 'Nellie' Darvishian
My career in mental health began long before my formal education. Life has not always been easy and I believe this, more than the fancy pieces of paper adorning my office walls, give me the upper hand in understanding the trials and tribulations that come with being a human. If it were not for these challenges and an uncanny sense of empathy I may not have had such an interest in the field of psychology. I certainly would not have entered a world filled with student loans, fierce competition, and having to navigate my way through the mental health field to arrive here to help you!

I began my studies at the community college level and had to take a psychology class as part of graduation requirements. It was this class that made me realize psychology was LIFE and life could change with a few minor tweaks. I fell in love with the idea of being able to make my own life purposeful, and excitement grew as I realized I could help others too!

I eventually went on to complete a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, graduating from Sam Houston State University. I possess two mental health licenses: Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA) w/ Independent Practice and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I have worked in the mental health field since 2008 in a variety of settings. I've been a faculty member at a university, a sex offender therapist at a prison, a mental health clinician at one of the largest county jails in the nation, an administrator for a community mental health organization, and have experience in both inpatient and outpatient services.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with loved ones (including my sassy dogs), dabbling in the fine arts, and exploring the earth. I enjoy reading in the areas of psychology and philosophy. On occasion, I will allow myself to indulge in a T.V. binge because, seriously, don't we all?! (In the profession we like to call these activities 'self care'!)
